JELI, April 26 – The Kelantan PAS Manifesto announced two days ago is nothing more than mere sweet promises and lack any comprehensive initiatives to solve the problems faced by the people, especially the impending land and water issues.
Kelantan BN chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said everything offered in the manifesto were nothing more than a gimmick and ‘sweets’ for the people of Kelantan.
“The land issue is a major one in Kelantan. The Ladang Rakyat scheme need to be addressed and resolved. It must be done in a more efficient and professional manner to ensure it did not benefit only specific people.
“We want the water problem in Kelantan to be solved. We in BN have already pledged to solve all the problems,” he told reporters after attending a meeting of Education office administrators in the Jeli district at Sekolah Menengah Sains, here, today.
The Kelantan PAS had announced its manifesto that contained nine initiatives, including the oil royalty rights. Kelantan is a relatively conservative Malay heartland, and has been ruled by PAS since 1990.
In the 2008 general election, PAS won nine of the 14 parliamentary seats and 38 of the 45 state seats. Mustapa said the oil royalty issue was politicised for political gains despite being a non issue as the federal government had already formed a special committee in August to look into a “fair” distribution of cash payments from petroleum revenue to Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.
