MELAKA, April 29- Johor DAP deputy chairman Norman Fernandez’s statement asking the non-Muslims not to vote for PAS highlights the lack of understanding and consensus within the opposition pact, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
The deputy prime minister said the DAP, PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) had different opinions and were always bickering among themselves over various matters.
“This shows that those in the opposition are disunited, lack understanding, have different ideologies and cannot concur.
“We have seen the clash of interest in many matters like when the Johor DAP vice-chairman asked the Chinese voters not to support PAS. That’s good for us…we know that actually PAS does not struggle for the Muslims,” he told reporters after launching the construction of a pedestrian bridge at Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Wen Hua here.
He was asked to comment on Fernandez’s statement asking the non-Malays to think carefully whether they wanted to gamble with their future with PAS following PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali’s pledge to continue wth the Islamic state agenda if the opposition won the 13th general election.
Muhyiddin said that in Melaka, there was also disagreement among the DAP members when the party’s candidate for the Kota Melaka parliamentary seat, Sim Tong Him, also nominated himself are to contest the Kota Laksamana state seat as an independent against the DAP’s Lai Keun Ban and BN candidate Datuk Chiw Tiang Chai.
“The upheaval within the party clearly shows that there are problems even in such matters (nomination), there’s no agreement, we are seeig the true colours of the opposition pact,” he said.
However, he said, the troubles within the opposition pact gave the Barisan Nasional (BN) a great advantage to win the general election on May 5.
“As the polling date draws near, we have already seen the lack of cooperation and consensus among the opposition parties, we’ve heard PAS’ angry comments over what DAP said. Even the DAP leaders disagree among themselves over many things. To me this is a good sign to give a big victory to the BN,” he added.
