KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7- Chinese non-governmental organisations are still hoping that MCA will overturn its decision of not holding any government post after losing badly in the 13th general election, said MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the issue had been brought up by the NGOs at the ‘Interaction on MCA Reformation and the Future of the Chinese Community’ dialogue session held at Wisma MCA here yesterday.

Liow Tiong LaiSpeaking at a news conference after chairing the three-hour dialogue attended by representatives from 58 Chinese NGOs including from the trade, industry and education sectors, Liow said: “They had expressed their views and viewed that MCA could help the Chinese community to solve many issues affecting them and have a pivotal role in helping the government to formulate policies for the good of the country.

“As such, they feel that it is only right that the MCA must be represented in the Cabinet.

They also discussed current issues affecting the Chinese such as education, business and security, he added.

Liow, who is heading MCA’s transformation committee, said despite facing strong rejection from the Chinese community, MCA would continue to engage and work closely with the community to win back their support.

He said feedback from the dialogue as well as other meetings with the Chinese community will be used to formulate a clear transformation blueprint for the party.

MCA has stood by its resolution in the 2011 and 2012 party general assemblies not to accept any government post if it performed worse than the 12th general election.

MCA only won seven parliamentary and 11 state seats in the last general election which was twice as bad as it did in the 2008 general election.
