Yan, Oct 30 – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the government’s earnestness in caring for the lot of those in need was out of being fair and considerate so that they could have a better life.
The deputy prime minister said government policies based on Islam which did not sideline any group, particularly the poor, had made Malaysia a model Islamic country.
“We help people not because we want to show off but to enable them to have a more comfortable life,” he said at a people’s gathering with the deputy prime minister in Titi Batu, here, Wednesday.
Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
Citing the turbulence in some countries in the Middle East, Muhyiddin said Malaysians must preserve the peace in their country so that all the government’s welfare programmes could continue without any interruption.
Muhyiddin, who is Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman, also called on the people, especially those in the Sungai Limau constituency who would be facing a by-election this Nov 4 to make the best choice.
“The best (choice) for the people of Kedah is BN. The people of Kedah are wise, they understand and know that to ensure a better future for themselves, they should choose those who can assist them,” he said.
At the event, Muhyiddin also announced aid totalling RM743,900 for the Jerai Single Mothers Association, Tekun grants and the welfare initiative, Program Kebajikan Rakyat 1Malaysia (KAR1SMA).
The Sungai Limau state seat by-election will a see a straight fight between BN candidate Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim and PAS candidate Mohd Azam Abdul Samat.
