Yan- Oct 30 – Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today he was grateful that the family of the late Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak has accepted his apology over a remark that PAS claimed was an insult to the former Kedah menteri besar.
Muhyiddin said the fifth of Azizan’s children, Mohd Rafi’ie, had sent a text message today to Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir saying that Azizan’s family had accepted the apology that the Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman had made yesterday.
“I am grateful that the text message stated that Azizan’s family had accepted my apology,” he told reporters after attending a luncheon with the Chinese community of the Sungai Limau state constituency at the BN operations centre in Sungai Limau Dalam near here.
Muhyiddin said he hoped that the issue was settled and would not crop up again.
PAS had demanded last Monday that Muhyiddin retract a statement that it alleged linked the removal of the subsidy for sugar to the diabetes suffered by Azizan and that it had been hurtful to the family of the late menteri besar.
Muhyiddin extended his apology during a visit yesterday to Bukit Choras, but denied that the statement was an insult and asked those making the accusation to review the recording of his speech delivered at SMK Sungai Limau last Saturday.
