Petaling Jaya, Feb 5- A police report, alleging criminal breach of trust (CBT), was lodged against MIC’s newly elected vice president S Sothinathan this morning by one of the party’s Youth member.
The report was made at the Port Dickson district police headquarters at 11am asking the police to investigate Sothinathan on his failure to hand over rental money meant for the party’s headquarters.
According to the report, Sothinathan who is also the Negeri Sembilan MIC chief collected rental from a private company that rented the ground floor of the Port Dickson MIC building.
The three-story building was built in the early 80′s and belonged to the party and is under the administration of the Teluk Kemang division.
Sothinathan was also the former Teluk Kemang division chairman before he was succeeded by R Balakrishnan in October last year.
The youth member, who did not want to be named due to security reasons, said Sothinathan has been collecting rental for the use of the premises from the private company for the past ten years but never turned in the money to the party’s headquarters.
“It is a standard procedure in MIC where all the rental monies collected by states or divisions must be handed over to party headquarters,” he told FMT.
“But, in this case we learnt that the money was not returned to party headquarters,” he added.
“We want party president G Palanivel to take stern action against Sothinathan who misused the party funds for the last ten years,” he said, adding that they are expecting more police reports against the latter on this matter.
MIC former treasurer-general Jaspal Singh, when contacted, confirmed that he did not receive any rental from the Port Dickson building during his three year tenure in charge of the party’s coffers.
“I was the party treasurer from 2009 until 2012 and I received rental from all the other buildings owned by party headquarters except for the Port Dickson building,” he said.
“Previously, I thought that the building was used only for party related matters. But, it was a surprise when I came to know that the building was rented to an outsider and it was not informed to party headquarters,”he added.
Despite numerous attempts, FMT could not reach Sothinathan for his comments.
