Muhyiddin Yassin DPMKUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 – The political crisis in Selangor is a good lesson for the Barisan Nasional (BN) to become a better party, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin, who is also BN deputy chairman, said what was important was for BN to continue working hard to resolve the people’s problems, especially the water crisis in Selangor.

“They (Selangor government) could not resolve the problem and let it prolong, but we cannot criticise them because it may be a lesson to us,” he said.

Muhyiddin said this when opening the 38th annual convention of the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma), at the Putra World Trade Centre here, Sunday.

Also present was Kimma president, Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Kader.

Muhyiddin described Pakatan Rakyat’s ongoing fight for the Selangor Menteri Besar seat as a “long winded drama”.

The crisis broke out when Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was sacked from PKR, a component of the Pakatan, for refusing to heed the party’s orders to make way for PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to be appointed as the new menteri besar.

Abdul Khalid , however, obtained consent from Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor to continue his duties as the Menteri Besar.

The menteri besar also fired several DAP and PKR state executive councillors (excos) who refused to support his administration and ran the state executive council with the support of four excos from PAS (Pakatan Rakyat is made up of PKR, DAP and PAS), the minimum quorum required.

Today, PAS’ Central Committee withdrew its support for Abdul Khalid to remain as the menteri besar and proposed Dr Wan Azizah and her deputy, Mohamad Azmin Ali, as the candidates to replace Abdul Khalid.
