NEW DELHI, Aug 29 – Is South Indian actor, Rajinikanth, often cajoled by political party to gain support, moving into politics? Reports are abuzz that the Bharatiya Janata (Indian People’s) Party has wooed the world-renowned actor, who has a huge fan base, in Tamil Nadu to join politics ahead of the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections in 2016.
Entering politics is a common move often taken by famous actors and actresses in India.
However, Rajinikanth, 63, has kept everyone guessing for a long time on whether he will join politics.For now, the BJP has officially denied it.
IBN Live reported that BJP has said “It is speculation. We are friendly with actor Rajinikanth”.
Prime MinisterNarendra Modi met him before the Indian elections. “There is a good relationship and friendship with him,” the report quoted Tamil Nadu BJP President Tamilisai Sounderarajan as saying.
According to the report, the superstar had casually replied to a reporter that he would take the plunge into full-time politics “if god wishes so.”
The report added that the BJP could be a natural choice for the full time actor. In 2004, Rajinikanth not only declared support for BJP but also offered Rs 1 crore (US$165,155) to Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was the Prime Minister then, for the river interlinking project
