Its managing director, Datuk Noorizah Abd Hamid said the rebate was given to encourage the public to travel on such days to reduce traffic congestion on peak days.

“It is also an initiative of PLUS, in appreciation of customers using the electronic payment system,” she said. She said PLUS would also provide 20 per cent toll rebate for all class 1 users at its three highways who adhere to its travel guide, use the ETC and travelled for more than 100km on peak days on Feb 17, 18, 21, and 22. She said PLUS was expecting the North-South Expressway to experience a 15 per cent increase in traffic to 1.5 million vehicles on the peak days.

PLUS also proposed that highway users returning home for the Chinese New Year on Feb 13 to start their journey from 6am to 8am for those travelling to Perlis, Kedah and South Johor.

Meanwhile, those heading to Penang and North Johor should start their journey from between 8am and noon, while those going to north and central Perak, as well as Melaka, start their journey at noon to 6pm.

Those going to south Perak and Negeri Sembilan are advised to move after 6pm. Similarly on Feb 22, those returning to Kuala Lumpur from the north and south are advised to travel according to the proposal travel schedule.
