KANGAR, March 7 – PAS deputy spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron(Pic) Din will be trying his luck for the Arau parliamentary seat at the upcoming general election yet again, after being defeated twice in 2004 and 2008. Met after the launch of the Arau PAS operations room in Simpang Empat, near here last night, he confirmed himself as a candidate for the seat currently held by Barisan Nasional (BN).
Haron, 73, first contested for the seat in 2004 but lost to BN’s Datuk Seri Diraja Syed Razlan Putra Jamalullail while in 2008 he was defeated by Datuk Ismail Kasim.
He said BN won the seat by only 300 votes in the 12th general election, which gave him the confidence that PAS was capable of giving BN a run for the money this time around.
“I’m making it known early that I’ll be contesting for the seat but BN has not announced its candidate,” said the opposition leader born in Bohor Mali, Perlis, at a news conference also attended by Perlis PAS commissioner Hashim Jasin and Simpang Empat assemblyman Rus’sele Eizan.
