Mumbai, November 7, 2012 -The video of Priyanka Chopra’s debut single as a singer, In My City, featuring Will. I. Am was launched online on January 29 and in less than a week, it has generated 11,71,456 hits on YouTube, which escalated the single to the top list of the site.

However, the video has received plenty of negative response, too. Over 1,600 surfers have disliked the song.

While fans have gushed about Priyanka’s musical foray, many others dubbed the song as “substandard”, “irrelevant” and “downmarket”. Some have even laughed off the lyrics, written by the actress.

While Priyanka has all along said her video is meant to give the world a taste of what is truly Indian, many netizens pointed out that the actress-singer was merely projecting a regular western image in the song, which had nothing to do with India.

However, except for a random Namastey and an autorickshaw in the background, there is hardly any Indian flavour to the video.

Skimpily dressed in shorts and corset, Priyanka does give us a few Bollywood-style jhatkas and pelvic thrusts, but overall the flavour of the video is quite western. Perhaps Priyanka wanted to blend bits of India into a larger western picture because she obviously wanted to cater to the international market.Over the past year or so, Priyanka has been dividing her time between India and the US, where she has recorded the single.
