Kuala Lumpur, July 12 – As the nominations for MIC branches proceeded today nationwide, MIC sources confirmed a keen contest is brewing-up in MIC Old Klang Road branch headed by Sunther Subramaniam (pic). The branch is located in Seputeh division in Wilayah Persekutuan.
Sunther, son of former MIC Deputy President Tan Sri Datuk S.Subramaniam, was nominated and appointed as a CWC member in 2013 by then MIC President Datuk Seri G.Palanivel.
Later, Sunther contested and won as a CWC member under Palanivel’s line-up in the 2013 party elections which was subsequently declared null and void by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Recently, Sunther was appointed again into the 2009 CWC by Palanivel.
MIC Wilayah Persekutuan sources said they were surprised to see Sunther’s nomination papers being filed as he was always seen as a strong supporter of Palanivel. Recently, he also declared publicly that he will always support Palanivel and would remain with him politically.
MIC sources pointed out that Sunther’s move reflects that of several other key leaders aligned to Palanivel who have decided to take a safe path by also filing nominations with Dr Subra’s official MIC.
Contest in Old Klang Road
MIC Wilayah Persekutuan sources said while they were surprised to see Sunther’s nominations being filed they were also equally surprised to see Yuvaraj, son of former MIC Old Klang Road Chairman (late) G.Pachiapper filing nominations for the post of Chairman.
G.Pachiapper was the head of MIC Old Klang branch for many years until his demise. Former MIC Deputy President of 25 years, Tan Sri S.Subramaniam was also a delegate from the MIC Old Klang Road throughout his entire political career. Sunther took over as branch chairman of MIC Old Klang Road in 2013.
MIC sources also revealed Yuvaraj may pose a serious threat to Sunther for the post of Chairman as many of his family members recruited by his late father are also members of the branch.
