Kuala Lumpur – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (21st November) morning and is scheduled to attend several public functions during his three day stay here, amidst tight security.
MIC President and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam has been appointed as the Minister in attendance during Modi’s visit in Kuala Lumpur. MIC sources said this honour given to Dr Subra, will give him ample opportunity to interact with Modi and to bring to Modi’s attention, the political and social issues relating to Malaysian Indians, thereby enabling the Indian Prime Minister to understand the Malaysian Indian community’s current state of affairs better.
Modi is expected to spend the whole of Saturday meeting International leaders and other ASEAN leaders who will be in Kuala Lumpur for the ASEAN Summit. He will attend the 13th ASEAN-India Summit on Saturday and will address the East Asia Summit the next day.
Modi’s public events
On Sunday Modi will attend the unveiling ceremony of Swami Vivekananda Statue at the Ramakrishna Mission in Petaling Jaya at 4.00 pm.
Modi carries the original name of Swami Vivekananda which is “Narendra”. Modi has also admitted on several occasions that he is a great admirer of Swami Vivekananda and revere him as one of his gurus.
Immediately after the unveiling ceremony of Swami Vivekananda’s statue, Modi will attend a mammoth gathering of Indian Diaspora in Malaysia at the Mines Resorts Convention Centre at about 5 pm. Some 12,000 participants have registered for this event through online.
On Monday (23rd November) morning about 11.00 am, Modi together with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will attend the launching of “Thorana Gate” at the Little India, Brickfields. The Little India project was unveiled in 2010 by Najib Tun Razak during the visit of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to showcase Indian community’s contribution to Malaysia.
Later in the evening, Modi will visit the Batu Caves Murugan Temple.
On Monday evening, Modi will leave for Singapore. His official visit to Singapore will last for two days.
The recent spate of arrests in Kuala Lumpur, of persons linked to ISIS and the recent attacks in Paris have prompted the Malaysian authorities to take maximum security precautions for Modi’s public events in Kuala Lumpur.
