Kuala Lumpur – The High Commission of India has announced the disbursement of RM 220,000/- as financial assistance under the Indian Scholarship and Trust Fund (ISTF) to 71 Malaysian-Indian students who are studying in various universities in Malaysia.
The Indian Scholarship and Trust Fund was created in 1946 by the first Prime Minister of India, Shri Jawaharlal Nehru to benefit and assist Malaysian-Indian students on an annual basis. Over the years, the corpus of the Fund has been augmented by contributions from other Indian Prime Ministers, including recently when Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced an additional grant of Rs.5 crores (RM 3 million) during his visit to Malaysia in November, 2015. This is the 70th year of the activities of the ISTF.
The selection of the deserving and meritorious students has been done by an extremely eminent set group of members of the Selection Committee of the ISTF. These eminent personalities include Tan Sri Prof. Dr. T.Marimuthu, Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Ajit Singh, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. M.Thambirajah, Mr. Sathish Ramachandran and Datuk Dr. Achaiah Kumar Rao.
On its 70th year, the High Commissioner of India, H.E. Shri T.S.Tirumurti presented plaques to the Committee members as a token of the appreciation of the High Commission of India and the Government of India for the services rendered to the ISTF by the members of the Selection Committee.
