Kuala Lumpur – MIC Secretary General Datuk A.Sakthivel has denied speculations that there were negotiations to offer a certain sum of money to the plaintiffs, as an inducement to withdraw themselves from the RoS-MIC case currently pending in Federal Court.
“It has been brought to our knowledge that during the last few days there have been news reports appearing in online and print media, claiming inter-alia that negotiations took place to offer the plaintiffs a certain sum of money to withdraw themselves from the court case against RoS-MIC which is pending for appeal in Federal Court. On behalf of the party, we would like to state categorically that there were no such negotiations with any parties other than the official correspondence exchanged between the lawyers concerned” Sakthivel said in a press statement released on Tuesday.
“Therefore, all such news reports and claims are baseless and malicious in nature, without any grain of truth. We urge the parties concerned to immediately stop spreading such lies and we shall not hesitate to commence legal proceedings against them for publishing and spreading such unwarranted news reports” Sakthivel further said in his statement.
Sakthivel also asserted that MIC has instructed its lawyers to study whether the news reports published so far infringes any laws on defamation, subjudice and contempt of court and further whether any offences have been committed by the parties concerned who have published the said news reports.
