Moscow – At least 10 people have been killed in an explosion in a central underground station in Russia’s second largest city, St Petersburg, according to state media.
Smoke has filled a part of the station, Sennaya Ploshchad, and it has been evacuated. Numerous other stations are being closed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was expected to be in St Petersburg to meet with his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko.
State media reported that the explosion was caused by an unidentified device.
