KUALA LUMPUR: A special allocation of RM2mil will be channelled to the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) to assist authors produce high quality works.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the allocation would be used to implement five initiatives, which included giving RM10,000 to every authors’ association for programmes on culturalising language and literature.
“The Government appreciates the role of authors in contributing towards a developed, knowledgeable and united society,” he said in his speech after an authors’ get-together ceremony with him here Monday.
Muhdiddin also announced an RM5,000 special assistance fund for authors interested in producing their own works.
Other programmes include overseas training stints for authors, buying literary books for school libraries and the Teachers Training Institute, and making the Hadiah Sastera Perdana Malaysia (Malaysian Primier Literature Awards) an annual event.
