PADANG BESAR, Feb 7 – Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin believes the people will continue to support Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 13th general election as confidence of the people has grown with the steps taken
by the government since 2008. Muhyiddin said based on his visits throughout the country, there was a sense of confidence and feel good feeling among the people, giving BN new a strength of trust.
He said in the past two years, the government had listened to the grouses of the people and understood their aspirations.
“We received the signal and message from the last election (2008) that sometime big, efficient and more effective steps needed to be done, to overcome
the fundamental expectation of the people.
“That is why we implemented the government transformation programme and economic transformation programme. The budget we prepared was aimed at assisting the people. Based on that policy we can see a big impact on the initiatives taken for the benefit of the people,” he said after attending a 1Malaysia People’s Banquet at Dewan Seri Melati, Beseri, near here, today.
Muhyiddin said three or four years ago, the people were not clear about the programmes meant for them and stayed away but now they have joined such programmes in earnest.
“The Prime Minister had taken a number of initiatives that showed a major impact in effectively rebuilding the confidence of the people. Since last year we have gone to the ground and introduced programmes to ease the burden of the people, through the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M), RM200 Youth Smartphone Rebate, ‘Sentuhan Kasih’ and 1Azam.
“We have also given out aid for taxi drivers, freedom fighters, ex-servicemen, traders and a cross section of the people. This has build the confidence of the people that the BN government is people centric and concerned
with the plight of its people.
“Malaysia is a peaceful country and business people need a stable government with a strong economic growth and conducive for investment and business opportunities. This are all strong points of the current government,” he said. He added that investors are coming here to invest in all sectors…oil, gas, hotel, education and others and that is a sense of confidence.
“We can see and feel the growing confidence while the opposition are wobbling because they have not fulfilled the promises made to the people. We on the other hand have fulfilled all our promises and done even more. So, the
people can weigh for themselves,” he said.
“With this kind of confidence and what has been briefed by the state BN on the preparations for the general election, I am confident BN can achieve a 100 percent win in Perlis. We can win both the state and parliament seats,” he said.
