Singapore President Arrives For Three-Day Visit To Malaysia

SEPANG, Sept 18 – The President of Singapore, Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, here to begin a three-day official visit to Malaysia.

He was greeted on arrival by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar and Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin.

iT.mmT0D88BIPresident Tan, who was sworn in as the seventh President of Singapore on Sept 1, 2011, was accompanied by his wife Mary Tan and several others.

According to the Foreign Ministry’s statement, his visit to Malaysia was on invitation from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

President Tan will attend a State Welcoming Ceremony at Parliament Square at 3pm Wednesday before receiving a courtesy call from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He will also have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah as well as attend a State Banquet to be hosted by the royal couple at Istana Negara tonight.

During the visit, the President and his wife are also scheduled to visit the University of Malaya, Pusat Anak Permata Negara in Putrajaya, the Islamic Arts Museum and Melaka.

The state visit aims to elevate bilateral ties between the two close neighbours.

Over the past few years, Malaysia-Singapore partnership has developed significantly for the mutual benefits of the two nations.
