Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean presented the award to Akhil at the Ministry of Home Affairs today, according to a statement issued by the Home Ministry.

Under Akhil’s leadership, the relationship between the Malaysian Special Branch (MSB) and the Internal Security Department (ISD) in Singapore had grown even closer, characterised by substantive exchanges of counter-terrorism intelligence and cooperation in security investigations, the statement said.

The successful repatriation to Singapore of several Singaporean Jemaah Islamiyah and Moro Islamic Liberation Front members apprehended in Malaysia is a testament of Akhil’s commitment to working closely with Singapore, especially against the terrorism threat, it added.

The award is a recognition of Akhil’s outstanding role and commitment in developing the ties between MSB and ISD, and his significant contributions to the security of Malaysia, Singapore and the region.

The investiture ceremony today was attended by guests from the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore, the Malaysian Special Branch and officers from the Home Ministry.
