Kuala Lumpur, Jan 30 – MIC central working committee (CWC) member Datuk S. Murugesan has been appointed as the party’s new treasurer-general with immediate effect, MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel announced Thursday.
Murugesan, 47, fills the post vacated by Datuk R. Ramanan following a High Court decision against him in a civil case.
“Murugesan, who is the former (MIC) secretary-general and a lawyer, has agreed to concentrate on his work as the party’s treasurer-general. He has been tasked to bring all properties of the party under one roof,” Palanivel said in a statement.
He said he believed that with the legal background that he had, Murugesan would be able to manage the party accounts, funds and properties in a proper manner.
“I hope that Murugesan will be able to work on soliciting funds from the corporate sector for the party,” he said.
Murugesan, when contacted, thanked Palanivel for placing his trust in him again.
He said he would focus on his duties and responsibilities to generate more income for the party.
