An Odissi Dance recital to commemorate The  ‘ITEC Day’ – by Indian High Commission

Odissi dance-Madhulitha-Ind High ComKuala Lumpur – The High Commission of India, Indian Cultural Centre, Kuala Lumpur  and Kalpana Dance Theatre are jointly organising a cultural event to commemorate Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day on Monday, 5th October 2015 at Tan Sri K.R. Soma Auditorium , Wisma Tun Sambanthan  , Jalan Sultan Sulaiman  50768 Kuala Lumpur from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

On this occasion, Odissi Dance Recital by Mrs Madhulita Mohapatra (pic), an eminent Odissi dancer from India has been organized. Senior dance students of Kalpana Dance Theatre, Kuala Lumpur will also present some items. Apart from this ITES scholarship beneficiaries will also talk briefly about their experience in India.

The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scholarship programme was launched in 1964 as the flagship programme of the Indian Government for technical cooperation with developing Countries under which assistance in human resources development is provided to partner countries in diverse areas.

It is a demand-driven , response-oriented programme that focuses on addressing the needs of developing countries through innovative technological cooperation between Indian and partnering nation. Along with  its corollary the Special Commonwealth Assistance for Africa Programme , ITEC covers 158 countries across Asia, Africa , Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe and several Pacific and Caribbean nations.

Odissi-Madulitha-Indian High ComMadhulita Mohapatra is an accomplished Odissi dancer and trainer. She has received her Nrutya Acharya from Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar and Nrutya Shastri from Sangeet Natak Academy.

Born at Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi, Orissa in the year 1978, she started her Sambalpuri folk dance  and Odissi in childhood . She began her initial Odissi training under Guru Krushna Chandra Sahoo at Kalahandi Kala Kendra, Bhawanipatna.

After completing her  graduation , she moved to Bhubaneswar , where she was guided and groomed by Guru Pabitra Kumar Pradhan. Later on she joined Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar and continued her Odissi under the guidance of Padmashri Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and Guru Smt Aruna Mohanty.

Kalpana Dance Theatre (KDT) is the brain child of Mrs Shangita Namasivayam , a Kalakshetra graduate. She established KDT with Daisyga Rani Tamilselvam as the Principal with the objective of promoting Indian art forms and culture in Malaysia.

KDT is today an exponent of Indian culture and performing arts with a strong emphasis on Bharatnatyam and Odissi.
