மார்ச் 18 – 2008ஆம் ஆண்டின் பொதுத் தேர்தல் தோல்விக்கு அம்னோவை மட்டும் குற்றம் சாட்டுவதை விட்டு விட்டு எல்லா உறுப்பியக் கட்சிகளும் அதற்கான குறைகூறலுக்கு பொறுப்பேற்க வேண்டுமென அம்னோவின் துணைத் தலைவரும் துணைப் பிரதமருமான டான்ஸ்ரீ மொய்தீன் யாசின் கூறியுள்ளார்.
“தேசிய முன்னணியின் தோற்றம் உடைந்ததற்கு அம்னோ மட்டும் காரணமன்று என்றும், அம்னோ பல முறை வேண்டிக் கேட்டுக் கொண்டும், உறுப்பியக் கட்சிகளின் தீர்க்கப்படாத பிரச்சினைகளும் 2008 தேர்தல் தோல்விக்கு காரணமாகும் என்றும் மொய்தீன் தெரிவித்தார்.
இன்று புத்ராஜெயாவில் நடந்த ஆலோசனைக் கூட்டமொன்றில், தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட முன்னாள் அம்னோ பிரதிநிதிகளையும், மூத்த தலைவர்களையும், முன்னாள் அரசு அதிகாரிகளையும் சந்தித்து மொய்தீன் ரகசிய ஆலோசனை நடத்தினார்.
பாரிசான் நேஷனலின் உதவித் தலைவருமான மொய்தீன், 13 வது தேர்தலுக்கு முன் தங்கள் கட்சிக்குள் உள்ள பிரச்சினைகளைத் தீர்த்து தங்கள் கட்சிகளை பலப்படுத்த பாரிசானுடன் இணைந்து செயல்படவேண்டுமாய், கடந்த பொதுத்தேர்தலில் அதிக இடங்களில் தோல்வியுற்ற பங்காளிக் கட்சிகளான கெரக்கான்,ம இ கா மற்றும் ம. சீ. சவுக்கு வேண்டுகோள் விடுத்தார்.
அம்னோவை பலப்படுத்தாவிட்டால் தோற்க நேரிடும்
மேலும் அவர், அம்னோவைப் பலப்படுத்தாவிட்டால், நாம் பயந்த மாதிரி மோசமான விளைவுகளையே சந்திக்கநேரிடும் என்றார்.இதற்காக தீவிர நடவடிக்கைகள் எடுத்ததையும், சட்டத்திருத்தம் செய்ததையும், இலக்கை அடைய நடத்திய நூற்றுக்கணக்கான புத்துணர்வு பயிற்சிகளையும் மேற்கோள்காட்டினார்.
வேட்பாளர்கள் பட்டியல் சமர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்டப் பின் அதன் தலைவர்கள் நன்கு ஆராய்ந்து தேர்ந்தெடுத்த வேட்பாளர்களை உறுப்பினர்களும் அத்தேர்வுக்கு மதிப்பளித்து ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்று மீண்டும் அவர் வலியுறுத்திக் கேட்டுக் கொண்டார்.
அதில் மிக முக்கியமான ஒன்று என்னவென்றால் வெறும் சான்றிதழ் தகுதிகள் மட்டுமே அம்னோவின் வெற்றிபெறும் வேட்பாளரை நிர்ணயம் செய்யும் அளவுகோலாகாது என்று பாகோ நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினருமான மொய்தீன் தெரிவித்தார்.
Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin has said that, while the party is often accused of causing the BN’s 2008 electoral debacle, other component parties must share the blame.
“BN’s image was dented not only because of Umno,.. (but also other components), we ask our component parties, some with far bigger problems, to also strengthen their parties” Muhyiddin said.
He was addressing a gathering of former Umno elected representatives, party veterans and former government officials in Putrajaya today, prior to a holding a closed-door dialogue session with them.
Muhyiddin, also the deputy BN head, cited the Gerakan, MCA and MIC, which lost huge numbers of seats.
He urged the parties to address these issues in line with Umno’s reforms, in order to strengthen BN for the 13th general election.
“We (Umno) know that if we do not do something to strengthen our party, what we fear (losing power) may come to pass. We took drastic action, we amended our constitution, we hold hundreds of courses… (to re-invigorate our machinery).
“We have done this because we acknowledge that our party have become weak,” Muhyiddin related, adding that the weaknesses must be addressed in the face of a more informed, tech-savvy and smartphone-wielding public, who judge political parties at the speed of information spreading through the “real-time” social media that is faster then any news media.
However, he admitted, even such drastic actions to improve the party may take time to seep into a 61-year old organisation like Umno.
Touching on Umno’s decision to only field the best and “winnable” candidates, Muhyiddin admitted that despite its best intentions, the part would continue to face “some limitations”, as tradition was that the divisions would nominate the candidates to the party.
“We will have to consider conventions, traditions, respect and the divisional line-ups. Who is division chief, who is Pemuda chief, who is Wanita chief…” Muhyiddin said.
He repeated the party leadership’s hopes that its members would, after their submitted names were vetted and a decision reached, respect the party’s choice and support the persons chosen.
But in the main, the Pagoh MP stressed, paper qualifications alone would not be the criteria for a person to be an Umno “winnable” candidate.
