IPOH– The government will announce the new policy on recruitment of foreign workers next Tuesday, Minister of Human Resource M. Kula Segaran said.
He said the policy, which is more systematic, was formulated to ensure that the recruitment of foreign workers would be done in line with market demands.
“The new policy will also ensure that the process to recruit and bring foreign workers into the country will be done transparently and according to the stipulated procedures.
“We want a systematic policy because our target is to ensure that the employment of foreign workers will not exceed 15 per cent of the total workers in the country,” he told reporters after opening the “Ride With The Boss” Cycling Programme organised by Ipoh City Watch and Koperasi Alam Hijau Perak Bhd (Kohijau) here yesterday.
Besides, Kula Segaran said his ministry and the Ministry of Home Affairs would meet to discuss on the matter soon.
The meeting, which most likely to be chaired by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is assuming the duties of Home Minister, will discuss, among others, the country’s need for foreign workers, the basis for it, and several restrictions that we might propose, he added.
