KOTA KINABALU — The Interfaith Harmony programme is the best platform to promote the spirit of unity among people of different faiths and religions to ensure continuous peace and prosperity, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator P. Waytha Moorthy.
He said the programme organised by the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) was able to gather leaders of various religions in the country.
“Through the programme religious leaders are able to understand one another thus promoting mutual consensus to enable us to achieve goals collectively. The contexts of national unity and religion are core elements critical to implementing policies affecting economic, social or political decisions,” he said in his speech at the Interfaith Harmony programme in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
Also present were State Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Aidi Mokhtar representing Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, JPNIN director-general Datuk Baharin Idris and Sabah JPNIN director Delin Liet Blaun.
Waytha said among activities organised in conjunction with the programme were visits to places of worship around Kota Kinabalu and dialogues between religious leaders in the state.
“This programme will strengthen friendship and create goodwill, apart from establishing an effective network of cooperative interactions among leaders of all religions in the country,” he said.
