Kuala Lumpur – The International Association Tamil Research (IATR) which has organised nine International conferences on Tamil Studies, is taking the conference for the first time to North America.
The International Conference-Seminar on Tamil studies is scheduled to take place in Chicago, USA, on July 3 – 7, 2019. The conference, sponsored by IATR is jointly organised by two major Tamil organisations, The Federal of Tamil Sangams of North America (FeTNA) and the Chicago Tamil Sangam (CTS).
IATR was founded by Rev Xavier S.Thani Nayagam in 1964 in New Delhi along with several other International Tamil scholars. The first International Tamil conference was held in Kuala Lumpur in 1966. Malaysia hosted the 6th Tamil conference in 1987 and the 9th conference in 2015.
IATR is currently headed by Prof Dr T.Marimuthu from Malaysia. Dr Soma Illangovan is the Chair of the IATR Conference Organising Committee which also includes several other prominent Tamil scholars and academicians.
Consistent with the main goal of IATR the following is the theme for the 10th conference:
“New Historicist, Scientific and Comparative Study of the Antiquity of Tamils, Tamil language, Culture and Civilisation”
Research papers on selected topics are invited from Tamil scholars around the world.
