Kuala Lumpur –Speaking to selliyal.com in an exclusive telephone interview on Thursday, Gerakan Vice-President Kohilan said Batu Parliamentary seat has been allocated to Gerakan and that the names of potential candidates have been submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration. “Our party President Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong has the prerogative to decide the candidate together with the Prime Minister.
Commenting on speculations that he is being considered as Gerakan’s candidate for Batu Parliamentary Constituency in Wilayah Persekutuan, Gerakan Vice President Datuk A. Kohilan Pillay said the seat will be contested by Gerakan on behalf of Barisan Nasional but as to who will be the candidate will be decided by Gerakan party President Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong and Prime Minister Dato Sri’ Najib Tun Razak.
“I cannot confirm or deny about the candidature as it is the prerogative of the party President and Prime Minister as Chairman of Barisan Nasional,” Kohilan said.
Meanwhile, there were speculations in Tamil media that Deputy Minister for Federal Territory affairs Datuk Loga Bala Mohan is being considered as a BN candidate for Batu Parliamentary constituency. In a statement released yesterday, Loga Bala Mohan said any candidature representing his party MyPPP would be decided by party President Tan Sri Kayveas and that he would abide by any such decisions.
Speaking about GE-14 Kohilan also said that the party is identifying more Indian candidates to be fielded as a candidate in line with the party’s image as a multi-racial party.
According to Gerakan sources, two Indians are considered as Parliamentary candidates to represent the party. Kohilan Pillay is expected to be fielded as a candidate for Batu representing Gerakan and lawyer Jayanthi is expected to be fielded in Batu Kawan in Penang to take on current MP Kasturi Pattoo from DAP.
